Artisan Bags by Refugee Women | We Made This

Support refugee women's empowerment

We Made This is a social enterprise that provides psycho-social integration, skills training, and supplementary income for refugees. Our mission is to unlock their courage and creativity and to activate their leadership potential through a multicultural sewing community and a network of sustainable partnerships.

We Made This began in 2009 with a small group of women and a few sewing machines, born of a vision to create a safe, welcoming space for refugee women new to the Denver area. Today, we remain true to our values of kinship, social justice, and empowerment, and are ever committed to our mission to nurture creativity through community.

WMT has since developed into a comprehensive program that also provides ESL classes and art therapy, and works with local partners to secure sustainable employment within the garment industry for our graduates. The foundation of the program is a 12-week sewing training course which provides introductory and intermediate classes. Our approach is customized to meet the unique needs of each individual and to connect her with the resources to reach her personal goals. Program graduates may opt to become WMT artisans, producing home and fashion accessories, and receive 55% of sales profits from each product they make.

There are many ways you can contribute to our story of community, creativity, and self-determination. Consider making a donation, shopping our products, or volunteering your talent and time in our studio!
